Celebrating Diversity through Spirituality in the Workplace: Transforming Organizations Holistically

    Get PDF
Managing diversity effectively is the key to attract and retain a productive workforce. Research demonstrates that celebrating diversity leads to greater productivity, increased creativity, and heightened morale and motivation. Organizations often benefit from the differing perspectives and rich experiences a diverse workforce provides. Similarly, organizations can enhance their creativity by encouraging diverse perspectives and opinions. Thus, issues of managing diversity, valuing diversity, and celebrating diversity have assumed added importance. This paper suggests that diversity is not a problem, but rather a solution to most of the challenges organizations face such as employee engagement and participation. Managing workforce diversity effectively transcends meeting a company’s legal requirements and complying with equal opportunity and non-discrimination regulation. Leaders need to understand and deal constructively with their own biases and prejudices that hinder diversity. Celebrating diversity is the extension of healthy spirituality that leads us to celebrate our differences and view diversity as different manifestations of the underlying Unity that permeates every phenomenon. This paper discusses key advantages of celebrating diversity, pinpoints barriers to organizational diversity, and offers some perspectives to overcome barriers to inclusiveness

Antioxidant Potential of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. roots: In-Vitro Evidences

Background: The study was aimed to determine the mechanism of antioxidant effects of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (GG) roots using in-vitro assays. Methods: The various extracts of GG roots were prepared and evaluated for DPPH scavenging, reducing effects and nitric oxide inhibiting activities. Prepared extracts were screened for the presence of various phytochemicals and quantified on the basis of phytochemical present therein. Results: The results showed that all the prepared extracts contained phenolic compounds. Also, extract showed appreciable antioxidant effects in all three assays employed. However, among prepared extracts, ethylacetate extract was found to have strong free radical inhibition, ferric reducing potential and nitric oxide inhibitory effects. The reason for high antioxidant activity in ethylacetate extract could be attributed to the significant amount of phenol compounds present in it. Conclusion: Evidently, GG’s capacity to scavenge free radicals, reducing potential and inhibit nitric oxide contributes to its antioxidant effects and thus, could be a strong candidate for developing antioxidant based drug therapy

On the existence of non-linear frames

summary:A stronger version of the notion of frame in Banach space called Strong Retro Banach frame (SRBF) is defined and studied. It has been proved that if X\mathcal{X} is a Banach space such that X∗\mathcal{X^*} has a SRBF, then X\mathcal{X} has a Bi-Banach frame with some geometric property. Also, it has been proved that if a Banach space X\mathcal{X} has an approximative Schauder frame, then X∗\mathcal{X^*} has a SRBF. Finally, the existence of a non-linear SRBF in the conjugate of a separable Banach space has been proved

Diastereodivergent Synthesis of Cyclopentyl Boronic Esters Bearing Contiguous Fully Substituted Stereocenters

The synthesis of molecules bearing two or more contiguous, quaternary stereocenters is challenging, owing to the difficulty in controlling stereochemistry whilst simultaneously constructing a sterically congested motif. Herein, we report the electrophile‐induced ring contractive 1,2‐metallate rearrangement of 6‐membered cyclic alkenyl boronate complexes for the synthesis of cyclopentyl boronic esters bearing two contiguous, fully substituted stereocenters with high levels of stereocontrol. Remarkably, simple variation of the reaction solvent enabled their diastereodivergent construction with facile access to complementary diastereomeric pairs. The utility of our methodology is demonstrated in the asymmetric total synthesis of (+)‐herbertene‐1,14‐diol

Facile Conversion of α-Amino Acids into α-Amino Phosphonates by Decarboxylative Phosphorylation using Visible-Light Photocatalysis

Amino phosphonates exhibit potent inhibitory activity for a wide range of biological processes due to their specific structural and electronic properties, making them important in a plethora of applications, including as enzyme inhibitors, herbicides, antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. While the traditional synthesis of α‐amino phosphonates has relied on the multicomponent Kabachnik‐Fields reaction, we herein describe a novel and facile conversion of activated derivatives of α‐amino acids directly to their respective α‐amino phosphonate counterparts via a decarboxylative radical–polar crossover process enabled by the use of visible‐light organophotocatalysis. The novel method shows broad applicability across a range of natural and synthetic amino acids, operates under mild conditions, and has been demonstrated to successfully achieve the late‐stage functionalization of drug molecules

    Strain‐Release‐Driven Friedel‐Crafts Spirocyclization of Azabicyclo[1.1.0]butanes

The identification of spiro N‐heterocycles as scaffolds that display structural novelty, three‐dimensionality, beneficial physicochemical properties, and enable the controlled spatial disposition of substituents has led to a surge of interest in utilizing these compounds in drug discovery programs. Herein, we report the strain‐release‐driven Friedel–Crafts spirocyclization of azabicyclo[1.1.0]butane‐tethered (hetero)aryls for the synthesis of a unique library of azetidine spiro‐tetralins. The reaction was discovered to proceed through an unexpected interrupted Friedel–Crafts mechanism, generating a highly complex azabicyclo[2.1.1]hexane scaffold. This dearomatized intermediate, formed exclusively as a single diastereomer, can be subsequently converted to the Friedel–Crafts product upon electrophilic activation of the tertiary amine, or trapped as a Diels–Alder adduct in one‐pot. The rapid assembly of molecular complexity demonstrated in these reactions highlights the potential of the strain‐release‐driven spirocyclization strategy to be utilized in the synthesis of medicinally relevant scaffolds

SCM Strategy for Sales Augmentation using TSP Algorithm and Time Bound Marginal Discount Utility

    Get PDF
At present, Fast Moving Electrical Goods (FMEG) industries target wholesale dealers and not the retailers for supplying their finished goods. The reasons for this being: a) Dealers are fewer in numbers and hence net distance travelled per shipment is less b) Dealers tend to demand higher lot sizes, thereby decreasing overall cost of transportation per unit for the product. This work presents a supply chain strategy to use retailer based distribution by solving both the issues by a) using the concept of milk runs by taking analogy of Travelling Salesman Problem to decrease transportation cost and b) applying time bound marginal discount utility to solve the issue of low lot sizes. A case study has been prepared based on field experiences of middle level FMEG industry for its four popular consumer products. It presents application of travelling salesman problem (TSP) algorithm to make efficient milk runs. Also, concept of time bound marginal discount utility solution is proposed to find an optimum discount price to optimize the transportation cost and revenues. The paper compares this proposed supply chain strategy with manufacturer to dealer model and manufacturer to retailer model with various combinations
